After viewing two musical films, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Singin’ in the Rain” do you feel that the musical is worth viewing to modern audiences? Would you advise friends to take the time to see one or two? We will discuss your feeling briefly next week!
Watching a musical, for me, is more relaxing and fun than watching a typical film. Perhaps that’s because I tend towards more serious and dramatic plots in my tastes, but it is a relief, sometimes, to just immerse myself in cinema. Thus I would say that a good musical is like a vacation from the harsher aspects of reality and a much needed respite for the soul. There have been a few recent examples of successful musicals (“Chicago” and “Moulin Rouge” come to mind) that audiences came to see. But, after seeing a lot more about the actual costs and complexity of the form in the documentary we saw last week, I can easily see why a modern studio boss might say “NO” to the idea of filming a musical. Lucky for us, there are plenty of older films to choose from when in the mood for a less serious night at the movies! For my friends, I would invite them for a relaxing evening’s entertainment and wait for their smiles to appear as mine did when watching Gene Kelly both singin’ and dancing in the rain.

ReplyDeleteAs I watched "Singing in the rain" I couldn't help but feel very happy, you see that's what movies like that do and why they were so important to early cinema. Not all musicals were as good as "The Wizard Of Ozz" or "Singing in the rain" but most had the same effect ,you left smiling and happy maybe even catching yourself doing a little two step shuffle before you reach your car. The most obvious effect these movies had on the general public was the music, how many time have you caught yourself humming" Singing in the rain" while you are out on a dog walk and the weather is stormy, or singing" Over the rainbow" when you're feeling a little blue. I would recommend to anyone who wants to laugh or wants to sing to watch a musical, If they have kids I would recommend they sit down with the kids and watch it with them. Can you imagine a young boy around the age of ten or eleven when the "Make Them Laugh" song starts? it would be a break from the over exaggerated use of special effect and computer enhanced movies that the little boy is used to and at the same time feed him little culture that kids in the present sadly do not have,Oh yes and it would make him laugh.
It is definitely worth to watch musical films. There is no way that those movies are not worth to watch. Classic musicals, dances and songs are still playing in the theater as excellent art forms. There are some of virtues of musical movies such as accessibleness, flawlessness and attractableness. We can enjoy musical films without expert knowledge about it, because film makers already edited them to be understandable. They edited it to be focused, bolded and compendious with their best skills to make them comprehensible. Unlike classic musicals, musical films are flawless. They can capture the best footage no matter of how many times, so those results are the best of best footages what they can do at that moment. It never depends on actor’s or other staff’s daily condition. Musical films are enormously attractive because it contains sing and dance in it. We can feel the emotion and energy from “The Wizard of OZ” and “Singing in the Rain” right away when we watch them. Dance is very effective for express emotions and sing is empathizes feelings really well. I feel enlightened after watch musical films, especially bright and humorous one. I want to recommend that kind of musical films to the friend who recently depressed, because well made one can make anyone to smile and animated.
