Paris Je T'aime

Which of the three short films did you prefer and why? We watched Tuileries (with Steve Buscemi), Quartier Latin with Ben Gazzara and Gena Rowlands (the divorcing couple) and Quatrieme Arrondissement with the Denver letter carrier speaking in rough French on why she loves Paris.

Have fun "directing" your first short scene. Remember to draw your plans before you shoot. It is enough to have three to five different shots and a screen time of a minute or two. See you Thursday!

  1. I liked the first one and the second one. The first one was funny and had a variety of different shots, which were cool. Like when the guy emptied the other guys suitcase all over him. And I did like when they did the close up of the kissing couple,as they realized they were being watched. I thought Steve did a great job with his character considering he did not speak in this film.

I also liked the second one. It was very different, with only a few different shots. I liked the characters and the end shot with the EX-wife. That scene really said alot about her and how she was feeling.

  2. As pure film making, I prefer the Tuileries piece with Buscemi over the other two. In order to tell the story well, the directors (the Cohen brothers) use a variety of shots. Not only that, but there is a ongoing joke with the boy and the pee shooter that never fails to amuse me. Because the directors provide us with Buscemi's reactions repeatedly (and wisely leave him silent) I can appreciate the film more. And, since most of us have been in a situation where we need to "not stare" at others for fear of their reactions, the situation seems universal: the innocent tourist terrified by locals who are only looking for a bit of fun!

  3. I really can't choose between the first and second because they're both really great of shooting at different angles.

Especially the first film, when Juile appears out of nowhere to sit next to a tourist, now that is a real great shot of him being surprised!

And what about the second one? That is a great shot too when she, smokes looking at a window and the reflection of her smoking, wow! Simply wow... I wish I could do a film like that someday....

  4. I liked the first one with Steve Buscemi. I liked it because it was funny and entertaining piece of video and I'm big fan of comedy. Although, I wasn't expecting Steve Buscemi gets beat up by the guy at train station. The other thing I liked was the different shots they had used and the location they had picked. I have to admit it that I learned few things from this short video. For example, I didn't know that the French don't like eye contact and everyone avoid it. I really enjoy Steve Buscemi’s acting,(movies) he always do great.
