Creating an Image: Salmon Strive over the Fish Ladder

  1. This photo was shot beside the Fish Ladder at the Bradford Island Visitor Centre, OR, USA on Sep. 8, 2013. I took a series of six shots to get this one that a salmon had just strove to jump over upper layer from this Fish Ladder. The fish is the centre of interest point and a big spray that was splashed by its tail is the second interest point. The fish head just swam down the water and the spray was splashed up the air. Both form a nice dynamic symmetry balance and create a feeling of movement in the shot. Moreover, the fish body and the central point of spray are on tow interest point from the principle of thirds. I took this photo with high camera angle, so it produced a psychological effect that touched my heart deeply. I watched. The fish jumped. The spray splashed. Suddenly, I also see a big fish tail dancing in the air. How wonderful!
