The Best of Television: Your Suggestions?

I can see our tastes in TV drama differ; however, I am very interested in the kinds of drama or comedy that you like to watch. Because of the nature of shows such as "The Amazing Race" (reality TV), I would prefer to hear about fictional shows like the "Freaks and Geeks" we watched on Thursday.

Please post a comment that suggests a show you have found to be of good quality and interesting. If not, I will bring some others for us to see next Thursday instead.

  1. I like the shows what you chose for us. Furthermore, it is a limitation for me watching shows in english.
Based on the two reasons above, I wish you could continue to choose some different style shows for us.
    Thank you in advance.

  2. When Brad asked us to suggest a TV show, I immediately reminded a show, "Growing Pains", which was my favorite. This show was broadcasted in China twenty years ago, and it attracted many Chinese children. Because of Chinese tradition, the parents were strict with their children. However, I found a totally different family style from this show. The parents looked like the friends of their children, and the children liked to share their stories with them too. This show impacted me deeply, and I decided to construct a similar relationship with my children in the future. I’d like to give my children a happier childhood rather than a tense one. Additionally, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio acted in this show. There were many interesting stories happened in this show, and I thought it was a good suggestion to introduce it to the class.

    1. Hi Lei,

I am unable to find a copy of Growing Pains. Do you have any DVD to help us? Sorry about that.

  3. Compared with some films I have watched, for my personality, I prefer the classic movie because it not only brings us entertainment but also thought-provoking either tragedy or comedy. Even though it is old, it has withstood the test of time. Some of films like “Les Miserable’s”, “Cleopatra”, and “Gone with the Wind” I had watched thirty years ago, the most unforgettable scenes still have lingered in my memory. These films helped me to understand the history of that era and link the situations to our times. I don’t have the specific title of the movies. If Brad chooses some for us, it’ll be better guidance to learn in this course.

  4. I read many English novels. I watched a few English movies. I induldged in tons of English documentaries. However I seldom picked up an English fictional shows. I judge myself that I am not used to or even not agreeable to the life style on the shows. Also hardly could I think and remember the show after the whole drama was over. If posible, I would like to watch some old style drama shows. But if for entertainment or study only, any show is fine.

  5. Hi Brad,
I find a website link to play this show at tudou.com

I hope it can be played in class even if I don't have a DVD here.
